Public Works utilizes concepts of technology and a practice-oriented approach to improve, construct and maintain the city by focusing on public infrastructure, spaces, and services. As the backbone of the city in construction, engineering, and maintenance, the technician utilizes their knowledge and experience to improve the City of Los Santos. They combine their knowledge in the field of technology and engineering with the ability to solve problems, implement designs, and guarantee time management whilst ensuring their own and their colleagues' safety in the line of duty.

Moreover, they work together with their colleagues as a team to come up with solutions related to engineering and construction problems in fields like power, energy, water, transportation, and environment, taking part in regular exercises to enhance the knowledge and abilities in regards to equipment, vehicles and system operation, maintaining an up-to-date grip on public works related topics.

ENERGY AND POWER
A key role of the Department is the provision of electricity to all households and areas in the City. The Department values distributed generation and is open for various sources of energy such as hydro, solar, thermal power and expects its employees to apply their knowledge in each field throughout their work.
WATER TREATMENT
Water in its nature can either benefit or cause damage, therefore, the Department of Public Works strives to treat it accordingly. Technicians are tasked with the treatment and management of water sources and reserves to secure the quality of water for the City and its inhabitants. The maintenance of water treatment processes is an essential duty of the technician thereby providing safe drinking water to the citizens. Moreover, the technicians are tasked with preventing any damage to the city caused by flood or precipitation, making it their duty to save the residents' lives and property.
TRANSPORTATION
Technicians of the Public Works Department ensure a safe and reliable network of transportation throughout the whole city. They regularly attend the roads, rail, and waterways of the City to improve, repair, or remove any obstacles on them that restrict the quality of transportation. Throughout their work, they are expected to be familiar with transportation structures that exist regardless of their type, be it for cars, trains, or ships.
ENVIRONMENT CONTROL
Another duty of the Public Works Department is to ensure that the environment is protected and treated with respect so its quality is preserved for the present and future inhabitants of Los Santos. Technicians are therefore expected to implement methods of pollution control and waste management to keep the air, water, and ground clean. Knowledge in recycling and storage of waste are requirements and the Public Works Department constantly asks its employees to utilize them.

The Department of Public Works is our largest Office and employs most of the city's employees. They are responsible for the construction, renovation, and operation of City facilities and infrastructure, as well as the delivery of transportation services.

The Department attaches great importance to technology and engineering, striving to utilize proven concepts to provide the best possible work and service.
1. The applicant must have attained the age of 30.
2. The applicant must have a legal address in the State of San Andreas.
3. The applicant may not have been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor.
4.A bachelor's degree in any of the following fields: civil, mechanical or electrical engineering, environmental sciences, personnel administration.
1. The applicant must possess a current driving license and a clean driving record.
2. At least six (6) years of job experience in Public Works, Construction, Road Works, Engineering or similar fields of work.
3. Minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory or executive leadership position.
1. Due to the department’s size and complexity, the ideal candidate will be a skilled administrator first and an engineer second.
2. Keeps abreast of all administrative, technical, financial, legal, and innovative developments and requirements. Plans, develops, and implements the Department of Public Works budget.
3. Knowledge in construction, maintenance, and engineering is a must-have, as they will be confronted with tasks from these fields regularly.
4. Provides supervision and guidance regarding hiring, training, performance evaluation, discipline, and dismissal for all divisions within the Department of Public Works, subject to applicable City personnel policies and procedures.
5. Responsible for administering, directing, and organizing the functions of the Department of Public Works.
STEP I. JOB CANDIDACY — The first stage of the selection process consists of a formal notice of intent by the job candidate to compete for the position. Such notice of intent shall be in writing and submitted to the Director of Public Works Matthew Williams, along with a full resume, a cover letter, and any referrals that can be considered relevant to the selection process.

STEP II. BACKGROUND CHECK — Upon submitting your application, the Director of Public Works will verify whether the information contained within is truthful. By applying, you agree that your personal information which includes your full name, legal address, driving license, and criminal record will be subject to review by the City.

STEP III. JOB INTERVIEW — You will be invited to a formal interview with key officials of the administration. The interview will primarily focus on your previous job experience and knowledge. It will also include theoretical questions in relation to the job profile. Before attending the interview, it is highly recommended to study the job vacancy thoroughly as it is considered to be a good preparation for the interview.

STEP IV. PRACTICAL ASSIGNMENT — After successfully advancing through the interview stage you shall be faced with a practical assignment in relation to the offered position. The assignment shall be aiming at your motivation and vision for shaping the position in the future as well as a written task.

STEP V. EXAMINATION — The recruitment process is concluded with one last interview conducted by two or more of the City's leadership. Its goal is to determine the candidate's soft skills, work attitude, and leadership qualities that he or she will demonstrate in the performance of their duties as a city official.
