IV. MOTIVATIONAL LETTER
- 4.1 Please explain why you have decided to apply for this vacancy.
While working as an artist for a couple of years after graduating from Stanford University, I felt great unrest within myself to contribute artistically in ways that would impact policy and society by more profound means than what I was achieving. I went back to graduate school, knowing that I needed to fulfill this desire to aid the public sphere through art. I chose to pursue a Master of Arts in Art, Place, & Public Studies. Graduate studies expanded the toolset at my disposal to do just that, teaching me that site-specific art entangled within urban contexts is the best way to inspire diversity, inclusivity, accessibility, and equity. The Department of Cultural Affairs in Los Santos has a unique opportunity to connect artists with local communities for the sake of enhancing the aforementioned public sphere through its resources as a governmental entity. Through this deep connection facilitated by art between artist and community, we all may begin to understand what is then integral to us as a collective cultural identity. What makes Los Santos unlike any other city in the world. And what part we all play, should we choose to, in fostering that culture.
